Information for travelers returning to Hawaii from French Polynesia

Papeete, August 18th, 2021

Dear travelers,

Your stay in French Polynesia will end in a few days and soon return to Hawaii.

To enter the states of Hawaii, the Hawaiian Department of Health requires a test for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (PCR test) to be performed within 72 hours before departure to the US.

  • Where:

1-Antigenic tests at departure from Tahiti

For passengers departing for the USA who require a negative COVID-19 test before boarding, the test center at the airport is open.
The center is open every day where a flight to the USA is scheduled from 3 PM until 8 PM.

To speed up the carrying out of tests at the Covid testing center of Tahiti Faa’a airport, passengers departing for the United States, can now pre-register and pay for their test two days before departure. This will allow passengers to avoid red tape and access the airport’s screening centre as soon as they arrive through a priority line. You can contact [email protected], with your last name, first name, date of birth and your file number obtained upon your arrival in French Polynesia (found on the label affixed to the back of your passport).

More information HERE.

2-The Louis Malardé Institute (ILM) offers travelers, leaving for Hawaii, the possibility of performing a viral test at ILM’s COVID Fare in Papeete (Crossroads of rue des Poilus tahitiens and rue of March 5, 1797), under the following conditions:

The traveler must present himself directly on site without an appointment with his transport ticket 72 hours before his trip for an RT-PCR test. An ILM agent will provide the traveler with a document with his identifier and details of access to the internet server where he can retrieve his result certificate.

Hours: Monday to Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. continuous day and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  • How to pre-register:

You can perform your test faster if you have pre-registered and validated the pre-payment of your file.

For a RT-PCR test, you must send at least four or five days before your test, by email to the address [email protected], your last name, first name, date of birth, date and flight number, type of test (RT-PCR) and if possible, your file number obtained on your arrival in French Polynesia (written on the label affixed to the back of your passport).

In return, you will receive an email containing your Departure file number as well as a link allowing you to prepay for your test.

When you go to the COVID-19 screening center in Papeete or at the Tahiti-Faa’a airport on the day of your test (72H / 3 days before leaving), you will be given priority for your test and your waiting time will be shortened. Give your Departure file number at the registration desk to be tested quickly.

If you need assistance, check with your accommodation (hotel, guest house, other…) or airline to achieve this formality.
