HOLOPUNI VA’A HAWAIKI NUI VOYAGE
The Holopuni Va’a Hawaiki Nui Voyage is a crossing by deep-sea sailing canoe between the islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Taha’a, and Bora Bora. The dugout canoes used are of the Holopuni class/gauge. A double-balanced pirogue with three crew members. It is propelled by wind and arm strength. Only an unsecured oar is allowed to steer (no rudder).
Five stages are in race mode with a cumulative result for a final ranking. There is a trophy for the winner of each leg. Three stages will be in raid mode.
