The Holopuni Va’a Hawaiki Nui Voyage is an ocean race for double-outrigger sailing canoes. The three-man canoes race between Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea and Bora Bora using the force of the wind and just a single non-fixed paddle for steering.
An ancestral navigation brought up to date
This race reenacts the voyages of ancient Polynesians who used to travel from island to island in the same manner. Although the canoes are built with modern materials, the method of navigation is the same. A very challenging event, both physically and mentally.
