Papeete, January 14th, 2022

– IMPORTANT UPDATE –

Update of the conditions of entry and stay in The Islands of Tahiti as of January 14, 2022

Updates for travelers from the United Kingdom
Since December 18, 2021, a compelling reason was required for travel between the UK and France regardless of the traveler’s vaccination status.
Today, these restrictions have been lifted.
As a result, vaccinated travelers from the United Kingdom are no longer subject to quarantine and compelling reason to travel to The Islands of Tahiti and only countries in the scarlet zone remain concerned.

Updates for travelers from red zone countries
On January 7, 2022, the State and the Government of French Polynesia agreed that vaccinated travelers from the United States only and from orange zone countries would no longer be subject to the compelling reason and quarantine.
Today, this decision has been extended to all countries in the red zone.
Therefore, vaccinated travelers coming from red zone countries are no longer subject to quarantine and to the compelling reason to travel to The Islands of Tahiti.

Entry and Stay conditions in The Islands of Tahiti as of January 3rd,  2022

All travelers, age 12+, are now required to present to the air carrier upon boarding a negative result of a RT-PCR or antigen test, carried out within 24 hours prior to boarding their departing flight to French Polynesia.
Airlines must ensure compliance with this national obligation which currently applies to all overseas French territories.
As the French Polynesia Ministry of Health strongly recommends choosing a RT-PCR test, which is more sensitive to the detection of covid-19.

Please note the three following options for arriving passengers:
OPTION 1: Presentation of a RT-PCR taken within the previous 24 hours, which is negative before boarding (recommended option).
-or-
OPTION 2: Presentation of a negative antigen test taken within the previous 24 hours and a RT-PCR test taken within the previous 2 days.
-or-
OPTION 3:  Presentation of a negative antigen test taken within the previous 24 hours  and an obligatory RT-PCR test upon arrival at the expense of the traveler (26 250 XPF) from January 10, 2022. Pending the results of this test, it is requested that travelers strictly respect barrier gestures and avoid any non-essential contact.

ADDITIONALS TESTS ON ARRIVAL IN TAHITI
On arrival in Tahiti, all travelers are subject to additional tests carried out by the authorities.
The results are sent within a maximum of 72 hours by email.
Travelers retrieve their results from their email address.
These results may be demanded at any time by the local authorities.
Failure to present may result in a sanction or a fine.

In this context, it is important that travelers enter, in their ETIS form, a correct email address to which they have access during their stay.
Tour operators and travel agencies are requested to take this information into account in the event that they complete the ETIS form for the visitors.

Important clarifications

Duration of isolation in case of a positive test on arrival or during the stay
If a traveler is tested positive upon arrival or during his stay, the duration of isolation is now reduced to:
– Vaccinated: 7 days in accommodations on the island where the traveler received the positive test
– Case of contact : 7 days
of strict compliance with barrier measures by avoiding all non-essential contact (prophylactic isolation)

Calculating the delay to complete tests prior to departure to Tahiti:
Details for calculating the time needed to complete the test before departure:
1. Direct flight (LAX SFO HNL to PPT): 24h before the scheduled time of departure to PPT
2. Flight with connection (transit, not stop over), made under a single reservation file: 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of the first flight (ex: from Paris, Nice, NYC, etc.).
3. If the flights have been booked separately in several different reservation files or if the connection lasts more than 24 hours, only the last leg is taken into consideration so 24 hours before the scheduled departure time to Papeete from LAX or SFR or HNL
