Top 5 ‘pinch me’ moments when in The Islands of Tahiti

May 8, 2020 in Experience

There are not many destinations in the world that literally take your breath away the minute you step off the plane, but The Islands of Tahiti does just that. And while anyone who has travelled to The Islands of Tahiti  would likely agree that it’s difficult to narrow down the top 5 moments, we have taken the hard work out of it and have done this for you…

1. When you see the overwater bungalows for the first time

The Islands of Tahiti are the original home of the overwater bungalow, and nothing can quite compare to the feeling of stepping into your very own overwater accommodation for the first time. Surrounded by crystal-clear water and direct lagoon access from your private deck, overwater bungalows often also come with their own plunge pool, and glass floors that enable 24/7 “Tahiti TV” directly into the waters below.

2. Snorkelling the blue lagoons

Impossibly turquoise, crystal clear waters leave most visitors to The Islands of Tahiti grasping for words to describe how stunning the lagoon truly is. Just as incredible below water as above, there are few places in the world where the snorkelling is as good as here (Fakarava, UNESCO Biosphere Reserve), in the lagoons surrounding this pacific paradise. Dazzling fish, an abundance of rays, and reef sharks, and colorful coral makes this an ultimate ‘pinch-me’ moment.

3. Seeing the most famous wave on earth

Teahupo’o is known for being home to one of the most cavernous barrels in the world. Each year, thousands of big wave surfers flock here for the World Surfing League “Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o”, and seeing this monster in front of you (which has been described as being as heavy and thick as a building) is truly hair-raising.

4. Watching a Polynesian Dance Performance

Nothing surpasses the excitement of the thunderous drums and breath-taking movements of Tahitian dancers. Wearing exotic costumes and swaying their hips with dazzling speed, Tahitian dancers will leave you breathless! The passion and joy of the Tahitian people shines through this unique art form and it simply cannot be missed.

5. Dine on a private white sand motu

There are few places in the world that provide culinary experiences like The Islands of Tahiti. Be transported to a private white-sand motu and enjoy a personalized dinner for two as the sun melts into the water. If the fresh, world-class food isn’t enough to ignite that ‘pinch-me’ moment, the views that surround you certainly will. See more previously shot in The Islands of Tahiti.
