Espace Culturel Jacques Brel

"The canoes are leaving, the canoes are coming And my memories become what the old folks do Would you like me to tell you: moaning is not in the Marquesas" – Jacques Brel
In Atuona Hiva Oa, a path leads to the cliffs of the cemetery where the graves of singer Jacques Brel and painter Paul Gauguin are located. A true haven of peace and emotion, the cemetery is built on terraces and overlooks the magnificent bay of Atuona. Near Atuona towards the airport, on a site overlooking the bay of Tahauku and the island of Hanakee, a monument in memory of Jacques Brel has been erected. Near the airport runway, his small plane "Beechcraft Bonanza", which received the name "Jojo", is on display. The cultural space therefore allows you to discover a little more about this famous French artist, who fell in love with Polynesia.
