Matira Beach on the Island of Bora Bora Named In Top 10 CNN's World's Top 100 Beaches
July 8 2013

Perched on Bora Bora’s famed lagoon of legendary blues and greens, Matira Beach was ranked number eight in CNN’s round top of “World’s 100 Top Beaches.

CNN staff noted in the online slideshow, “Bora Bora is like the Gwyneth Paltrow of beaches: a little too perfect to be believable. But the spell that this small island in French Polynesia has cast on probably every traveler ever to dip a toe into its soft sands or calm waters has yet to be broken.” CNN also notes that, Visitors can feed sharks, hunt for black pearls, look through World War II memorabilia or just laze on the sand.”

Bora Bora, also known as the “The Romantic Island,” is often called the most beautiful island in the world. The tiny island – just 18 miles in circumference – is encircled by a protective necklace of coral. Lush mountains provide a dramatic backdrop for the indescribable turquoise, lapis and aquamarine of the sheltered lagoon. It’s no surprise that most of the island’s activities center around the spectacular lagoon and beaches. Bora Bora is home to world-class resorts and quaint French-inspired restaurants, and is known for its jet-setting celebrity visitors who relax anonymously on its secluded beaches.
